Breakdown recovery in Corby, day or night
Rapid Recovery is a local breakdown recovery firm based in Corby. We answer the phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including nights, weekends and bank holidays, and we send a truck to recover your vehicle to a garage, your home, a dealer or our secure storage yard.
We have been in vehicle recovery for over five years and run a fleet of five or more recovery vehicles. That means when you ring at 2am on a Sunday, you speak to someone who can actually send help, rather than a call centre that passes your details on.
In Corby itself we usually arrive within 30 to 45 minutes. For anywhere further out, we give you a realistic arrival time on the phone before we set off, so you can plan around it.

What our car recovery service covers
Breakdown recovery is the main thing we do. It covers any situation where a vehicle can't be driven safely and needs to be moved on a recovery truck. Typical jobs include:
- Roadside breakdowns in town, on estates and on country lanes
- Breakdowns on the A14, A43, A6003, A6116 and other major roads
- Accident recovery, including work for insurers and accident management companies
- Non-runners collected from driveways, streets and private car parks
- Off-road and ditch recovery using a winch
- Recovery from low car parks and tight spaces where a large truck can't get in
- Garage-to-garage moves and runs to an MOT centre
- Vehicles that need holding somewhere safe, in our secure yard
We recover anywhere in the UK, so if you break down far from home and want the car brought back to a garage you trust in Corby or Kettering, we can do that too.
How vehicle recovery works, step by step
- Get yourself safe first. Hazards on, everyone out on the side away from traffic, and behind a barrier if there is one.
- Call or WhatsApp 07598 314366. Tell us where you are, what the vehicle is and what's happened. A WhatsApp live location or a what3words address is the quickest way to pin you down.
- Agree the price and arrival time. We give you the cost of the job on the phone before a truck leaves. Nothing is sent until you're happy with it.
- We arrive and assess. The driver checks the vehicle, the surroundings and the safest way to load it.
- We load and secure the vehicle. Using the right kit for the job, whether that's a spec lift, a beavertail, a winch, or dollies and skates.
- We take you and the vehicle where it needs to go. In most cases passengers can travel with us. Tell us how many people there are when you call.
- You pay on the day. Card, bank transfer or cash. Business customers can ask about invoicing.
Vehicles we recover
Our fleet handles most things you'll find on UK roads:
- Cars of all sizes, from small hatchbacks to large estates and saloons
- Vans up to 3.5 tonnes
- 4x4s and SUVs
- Motorbikes
- Campervans
- Classic cars that need careful, gentle handling
If your vehicle is lowered, heavily loaded or badly damaged, mention it when you call. It helps us send the right truck first time.
The recovery truck matched to the job
We don't send the same tow truck to every call. The right equipment makes recovery quicker and safer for your vehicle.
- Spec lift trucks lift the vehicle by its wheels and tow it. They are quick to hook up at the roadside and useful in tight spots.
- Beavertail tilt-and-slide transporters have a bed that tilts and slides down to the ground, so cars load at a shallow angle. They suit low cars, damaged cars and longer journeys, as the whole vehicle rides on the bed.
- Winches pull non-runners onto the bed and recover vehicles from ditches, verges and soft ground.
- Dollies and skates go under the wheels so a car with seized brakes, locked steering or flat tyres can be rolled. Our van carries them into low car parks and tight spaces where a bigger truck won't fit.
Some of our trucks can carry one car and tow a second on a dolly. That is handy after a two-vehicle accident, or when a garage needs two cars moved at once.
Accident recovery and insurance work
After a collision the vehicle often can't be driven, there may be debris on the road, and you are shaken up. We recover accident-damaged vehicles, clear what we safely can from the scene, and take the vehicle to a garage, a bodyshop or our secure yard.
We work with insurers and accident management companies. If you know who is handling your claim, tell us when you call. If not, we can hold the vehicle in our secure storage yard while it's sorted out, so it isn't left on the street.
Safety and PAS 43
We are PAS 43 accredited. PAS 43 is the national safety standard for vehicle breakdown, recovery and roadside operations. It covers how recovery operators work at the roadside, from how vehicles are positioned to how the scene is protected. We also hold ISO 9001 for quality management.
What you should do while you wait:
- On a fast road, pull as far left onto the verge or into a lay-by as you safely can.
- Put your hazard lights on. At night, keep your sidelights on too.
- Get everyone out on the side away from traffic and stand behind a barrier if there is one.
- Wear a high-vis vest if you have one.
- If you're stuck in a live lane and can't get out safely, call 999 first.
- Don't restart an engine that has stalled in floodwater, and don't open a hot radiator cap.
Our full guide on what to do if you break down covers this in more detail, and there is separate advice for breaking down on the A14.
How much does breakdown recovery cost?
Local breakdown recovery has a £60 minimum charge. Anything beyond a simple local job, such as a longer distance, a heavier vehicle, a winch recovery or an awkward location, is priced on the phone before we set off. You know the cost before a truck moves.
Our breakdown recovery cost guide explains exactly what affects the price and how to keep it down.

Who uses our recovery service
Most of our calls come from private drivers who have broken down on the way to work, on the school run or late at night. We also work for garages that need cars brought in, car dealers moving stock that won't drive, fleets and companies with vans off the road, and insurers and accident management firms after a collision.
Whoever is calling, the approach is the same. We answer the phone, give a clear price, turn up when we say we will and treat the vehicle with care. Business customers can arrange invoicing with us, which keeps things simple for regular work.
What to have ready when you call
A few details help us send the right truck and give you an accurate price:
- Where you are: a live location, what3words, or the nearest junction, marker post or landmark and your direction of travel
- The make, model and registration of the vehicle
- What's happened: won't start, lost power, accident, stuck, seized wheels
- Whether the car rolls, steers and is in neutral
- Where you want it taken
- How many passengers need a lift
If the car simply won't start, a jump start may get you going without a tow. If it's beyond repair, we also offer scrap car collection, and for planned moves see our car transport service.
