Scrap my car in Corby
Every car reaches a point where it isn't worth spending money on. It might have failed its MOT with a long list of work, been written off after an accident, or simply sat on the drive for months. Rapid Recovery buys scrap and unwanted vehicles, collects them free of charge and makes sure they are disposed of legally.
We are based in Corby and collect across Northamptonshire. Because we run our own recovery trucks, we can collect cars that don't run, have flat tyres or are parked somewhere awkward.

What scrap car collection covers
We buy and collect:
- Cars that have failed their MOT
- Cars with no MOT or no tax
- Non-runners, including cars with seized engines or brakes
- Accident-damaged and written-off vehicles
- Vans and motorbikes
- Vehicles without a V5C logbook, with proof of ID
Collection is free. We pay you for the vehicle, by bank transfer.
How scrapping your car works
- Get in touch. Call or WhatsApp 07598 314366, or use the contact form. Give us the registration, make, model, mileage and condition. Photos help.
- Get a price. We tell you what we can pay and what it is based on.
- Book a collection. We agree a time that suits you, from your driveway, the street, a garage or a car park.
- Collection day. We check the vehicle matches what was described, check your ID and the paperwork, and load it.
- You are paid by bank transfer. Cash payment for scrap vehicles is illegal, so we always pay by transfer.
- The vehicle goes to an ATF. A licensed Authorised Treatment Facility issues the Certificate of Destruction and tells the DVLA.
- Tax refund. Once the DVLA knows the vehicle has been scrapped, any full months of vehicle tax left are refunded to you automatically.
Licensed and legal
Scrapping a car properly protects you. If a vehicle isn't disposed of through the right channels, you can stay recorded as the keeper and remain liable for it.
- We hold a waste carrier licence and a scrap metal collector's licence.
- Every vehicle goes to a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF).
- The ATF issues the Certificate of Destruction and notifies the DVLA.
- We pay by bank transfer, as required by the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013.
Be wary of anyone offering cash for a scrap car. Since the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, it has been illegal to pay cash for scrap vehicles.
Why use a local scrap car collector?
Plenty of national websites offer to scrap your car, but many of them simply pass the job to whoever is nearby. Dealing with a local firm directly means you know who is turning up, you can speak to them on the phone, and the price you're quoted comes from the people actually collecting the car.
Being based in Corby also means we are flexible on timing. We run five or more trucks and answer the phone 24 hours a day, so we can usually fit a collection around your work, an evening or a weekend. If the car is sitting on the street and causing a problem, tell us and we will do our best to move it quickly.
What happens on collection day
The driver checks that the vehicle is the one described, looks at your V5C or proof of ID, and confirms the price. If the car is missing major parts that weren't mentioned, such as the engine or catalytic converter, the price may need adjusting, and we will explain why before anything is loaded. Once you are happy, the vehicle is loaded and payment is made by bank transfer.
Collecting non-runners and awkward cars
A scrap car often hasn't moved for a while. Brakes seize, tyres go flat and batteries die. Our trucks deal with that:
- Winches pull non-runners onto a beavertail transporter.
- Dollies and skates let us roll a car with seized wheels or locked steering out of a garage or tight space.
- Spec lift trucks can tow a vehicle from the roadside.
Tell us if the car is in a garage, behind a gate, on soft ground or in a low car park, and we bring the right kit.
What decides the price of your scrap car
Scrap car prices depend on:
- Weight. Most of the value is in the metal, so heavier vehicles are usually worth more.
- Scrap metal prices. These move with the market, so the price can change over time.
- Make and model. Some vehicles have parts that are in demand.
- Completeness. A car with its engine, gearbox, catalytic converter and wheels is worth more than one with parts missing.
- Condition. Heavy damage or stripped parts can lower the price.
We give you a price before collection. The scrap car cost guide explains how it's worked out.
When is a car worth scrapping?
There's no single rule, but scrapping is usually the sensible choice when:
- The repair bill to pass an MOT is more than the car would be worth afterwards
- The car has been written off by an insurer and you have the option to keep it
- The engine or gearbox has failed and a replacement isn't worth fitting
- Rust has reached structural areas, which is expensive and often uneconomical to put right
- It has sat unused for so long that brakes, tyres, battery and fluids all need attention
- It's costing you money in insurance or tax, or sitting on a SORN, without being used
If you are unsure, tell us what's wrong with it when you ask for a price. We will be straight with you about what it's worth to us, and you can compare that with what a garage says the repairs will cost.
Scrapping a car for someone else
We are often asked to collect a car on behalf of a relative, for example after a family member has stopped driving or passed away, or when someone has moved into care. That's fine, as long as the person arranging it is entitled to dispose of the vehicle. Tell us the situation when you call and we will explain what proof we need to see, so the collection goes smoothly and the paperwork is right.
Garages, dealers and fleets also use us to clear vehicles that aren't worth repairing, and we can invoice businesses by arrangement for the collection side of regular work.
Your V5C and paperwork
If you have the V5C logbook, the ATF needs it. Keep the small section for selling or transferring to the motor trade as your own record. If you don't have the V5C, we can still collect with proof of ID showing you are entitled to scrap the vehicle. Tell us when you call so we know what to check.
Our step-by-step guide on how to scrap a car explains the paperwork in full.

What to have ready
- Registration, make, model and mileage
- A description of the condition, and photos if possible
- Whether it runs, rolls and steers
- Where it is parked and any access issues
- Your V5C logbook, or proof of ID if you don't have it
- Your bank details for payment
- The keys, if you still have them
Before collection, remove personal belongings, check the glovebox and boot, and take off any private number plate you want to keep through the DVLA's retention process before the car goes.
Not sure it's scrap?
If the car might be worth repairing, our breakdown recovery service can take it to a garage for a second opinion first. If it simply won't start, a jump start is worth trying before you decide.
